A Healthy Body, COVID-19 & Hemp

Pandemics of years gone by and the current COVID-19 has shown us time and time again that being healthy is of utmost importance. It really is survival of the fittest. And I don’t mean skinny, muscle-head fit, I mean mind and body fit. Are you taking all your multivitamins? Are your shots up to date? Your A1c levels? How healthy is your mind?

Let’s talk about COVID-19, what exactly is it and what does it do?

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an illness caused by a virus that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a new coronavirus that has spread throughout the world. COVID-19 symptoms can range from mild (or no symptoms) to severe illness. You can become infected by coming into close contact (about 6 feet or two arm lengths) with a person who has COVID-19. You become infected from respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. You may also be able to get it by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, and then by touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. This year over 200,000 Americans have died as a result of this virus and the count continues as we head into flu season and until we have a working vaccine. We know that everyone is at risk of developing this virus but the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions are at a higher risk. So what can we do to keep our bodies strong enough to fight this and any other virus?

The biggest issue with COVID-19 is that instead of just killing the virus, the body’s over-the-top immune response can actually disable the lungs, and very quickly at that. This transforms the lungs into a place where the virus just replicates instead of one that makes oxygen available for our bodies and eliminates potentially harmful gases like CO2. At this point, ventilators are brought in to enable critically ill people to use less energy to breathe and have more energy to fight infection and help the lungs recover. Unfortunately evidence has shown that 30-50% of patients who get to this point do not survive.

Check out the link below to a study which showed how hemp affected COVID-19 patients.

For those of us who are following the precautions and social distancing, and those of us who have come out the other side of a COVID-19 infection, how can hemp help in keeping us healthy? Some swear by taking it every day as a preventative.

Mental health and physical health are closely connected. Mental health plays a major role in people’s ability to maintain good physical health. According to the World Health Organization, over 300 million people in the world suffer from depression. A large percentage of these people also suffer from anxiety.

A healthy mind and healthy body go hand in hand and are equally important in order to fight disease and maintain an equilibrium for the body to work at its best.
